My 1st Pop Fiction Cover

The project was to create a look for this Trinity Blood title that would be consistant with the Pop Fiction branding established by our novels line.

Original Japanese Novel Cover.

Taking one of the illustrations from the interior, I gave it a vectorized look.

And this was the look we used for the ARC (Advance Reader’s Copy).

Sending it to Japan, it turns out their offices wanted a different look. They provided us with some new line art from the original artist to create the cover from. And this is what the final version came out looking like:

Crossing Borders

“Across The Board… Across The Borders”

This was the first gallery I participated since I left college 6 years ago. The concept behind the gallery was of crossing borders. The idea behind my piece was to create portraits of family members, friends, etc. And crop them in interesting ways. I also made sure that the eyes were confronting the viewers. The concept behind it was all was dealing with immigration: All of these people, and you didn’t know which were legal and which weren’t.

Year Of The Boar

For the “Holiday Card”, I was asked to create a non-specific Holiday card showcasing our 4 main company properties; Mail Order Ninja, Princess Ai, Dramacon and I Luv Halloween. I came up with them all on a sled, riding together on a snowy mountain. There’s a rocket for the Japanese Version of the card.

My Dead Girlfriend Comic-Con 2006 Posters

This one, I didn’t exactly do artwork for. We were provided the artwork by the artist, Eric Wight, and we were to turn it into posters for his signing event. The art director recommended something with frames. I looked at the art, and then drew picture frames emulating the artist’s style. I’m really proud of the way these came out.

TOKYOPOP Summer Reading Program 2006

Last Year, we teamed up the Los Angeles Public Library to spread word of the Manga Revolution through their summer reading program.

I drew the artwork that ended up being used on the promotional materials! The theme was, “There’s a little manga in everyone!” My artwork was used to create bookmarks, a folder, a library certificate, a book review, a reader’s log, and a library poster

Princess Ai Trilogy

Chosen by creator DJ Milky to create concept art for Tokyopop’s flagship title, Princess Ai.

Princess Ai Volume 1: Destitution
First Published July 2004, Tokyopop, Inc.

I was given a chance to design the Royal Family Crest for Ai-Land, the domain Princess Ai is from. Taking misc. glyphs from Courtney Love’s American Sweetheart CD case (she’s who inspired Princess Ai) I designed a crest based off of several Scottish Family Crests as reference. It was printed on page 70 of volume one in a panel showing a royal book. Printed internationally as well. They took the symbol in the center of the glyph (supposed to be a stylized “Ai”) and put it in her locket for the color page.

Princess Ai Volume 2: Lumination

During Princess Ai’s dream / flashback I drew the concept art for the “draining” of an angel’s blood to turn into energy. We took my art and sent it to the Japanese artist, Misaho Kujiradou, because DJ Milky was real specific about how he wanted it to be seen. The artist also drew the slave I created for the panel. I also served as the production artist for the book creating it from scratch using the japanese book as a guide and lettering the balloons.

Princess Ai Volume 3: Evolution

Using the final concert scene, I created a look for the stage that is to be used for the Princess Ai music video and movie they’re producing. I also created the drum decal that they used for filming the video footage. And as with the previous volume, I also created it from scratch using the japanese book as a guide once more, lettering the word balloons. I also found all the extra materials I could find and created the large bonus chapter at the end of the book.
